Certified Translator and Interpreter in Sintra

Sintra is one of the most popular destinations for weddings and elopements in Portugal. It’s also my home municipality. I live here, I know the area, and I know the local government offices.

I’m Duda, a GOV.UK authorised translator and certified interpreter. I provide document translation and in-person interpretation across Sintra, with a particular focus on wedding ceremonies and civil registry appointments.

Why Sintra for weddings

Sintra’s palaces, quintas, and gardens make it one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in Europe. Couples fly in from the UK, the US, and across the world to marry here. But the legal ceremony still happens at a Portuguese Conservatória, conducted in Portuguese, with all the same document and interpreter requirements as anywhere else in the country.

If either partner doesn’t speak Portuguese, a certified interpreter is required by law at the civil ceremony. Your partner cannot interpret for you, regardless of how fluent they are. It must be an independent professional.

I provide wedding interpretation at ceremonies in Sintra and the surrounding area. I coordinate with the Conservatória in advance, brief the couple on what to expect, translate any personal vows, and interpret the entire ceremony so both partners understand every word.

For destination weddings and elopements, I can handle the full language side of the legal process: translating and certifying all the documents you need for the marriage application, and then interpreting at the ceremony itself. One point of contact for the entire process.

Government offices in Sintra I work with

Conservatória do Registo Civil de Sintra

Sintra municipality has two Conservatória offices:

Sintra at Rua Ulisses Alves, 9, 1.o D, 2710-626 Sintra

Queluz at Rua Professor Dr. Virgílio Machado, 5-A, 2745-344 Queluz

Both handle marriage registrations, birth registrations, and other civil registry matters. I provide interpretation at appointments at both locations.

Notary offices

Sintra has several notary offices handling property transactions. The municipality covers a large area, from Sintra town to Queluz, Belas, Cacém, and Mem Martins, with significant property activity across all of them. I provide interpretation at notary signings for property purchases, powers of attorney, and other notarial acts.

Junta de Freguesia offices

Sintra municipality includes multiple parishes: Sintra, Queluz e Belas, São João das Lampas e Terrugem, Algueirão-Mem Martins, Agualva e Mira-Sintra, Cacém e São Marcos, Casal de Cambra, Colares, Rio de Mouro, and Massamá e Monte Abraão. Each has its own Junta de Freguesia for local administrative matters. I provide general interpretation at parish-level appointments.

Services I provide in Sintra

GOV.UK authorised translation (Portuguese to English). I personally translate Portuguese documents into English for British nationals, with translations officially recognised by the UK government.

Certified translation for Portugal (English to Portuguese). I provide certified translations of foreign documents for Portuguese authorities. All translations are certified by a Portuguese lawyer, as required by Portuguese law. This covers birth certificates, marriage certificates, criminal records, academic qualifications, and all other document types.

Wedding and ceremony interpretation. My most popular service in Sintra. I interpret at civil marriage ceremonies at the Conservatória and can also interpret at symbolic ceremonies held at venues across the municipality.

General interpretation. Conservatória appointments, notary signings, medical appointments, school meetings, bank meetings, and any other situation where you need English-Portuguese support in Sintra.
