Certified Translator and Interpreter in Lisbon

Lisbon is where the majority of expat life in Portugal happens, and it’s where most of the bureaucracy happens too. The main AIMA offices, multiple Conservatórias, notary offices, embassies, and government departments are all here. If you’re an expat in Lisbon and you need documents translated or someone to interpret at an appointment, this is what I do.

I’m Duda, a GOV.UK authorised translator and certified interpreter based in the greater Lisbon area. I’ve translated documents and interpreted at appointments across the city, from AIMA in Odivelas to weddings near Marquês de Pombal.

Government offices in Lisbon I work with

AIMA offices

Lisbon has two main AIMA offices handling residence permit applications:

Lisboa I on Avenida António Augusto de Aguiar, 20 (1069-119 Lisboa). Open weekdays 9am to 5pm. This is one of the highest-volume AIMA offices in the country.

Odivelas at Centro Comercial Strada Outlet, Caixa 18, Estrada da Paiã (2675-626 Odivelas). Open weekdays 9am to 5pm.

I provide AIMA appointment interpretation at both offices. I review your documents before the appointment, brief you on what to expect, sit with you during the appointment, and interpret everything in real time. In a system where one missing document means a rejected application and months of waiting for another slot, having someone who knows the process beside you is practical insurance.

Conservatórias do Registo Civil

Lisbon has several Conservatórias across different parts of the city, each covering a specific area. Whether you’re registering a marriage, registering a birth, or updating your civil status, the appointment is conducted in Portuguese.

I provide interpretation at Conservatória appointments and wedding ceremonies across all Lisbon Conservatórias. I’ve interpreted at a wedding near Marquês de Pombal, and I’m familiar with how different Conservatórias in the city operate. Some are more formal than others, some have specific requirements for interpreters, and knowing these details in advance makes the day run smoothly.

Notary offices

Property purchases, powers of attorney, company formation, and other notarial acts all happen at notary offices across Lisbon. I provide interpretation at notary appointments so you understand every clause before you sign.

Embassies and consulates

The British Embassy and the US Embassy are both in Lisbon. If you need documents from the embassy translated, or if you need interpretation support for an embassy appointment, I can help.

Finanças, Segurança Social, and other offices

Tax offices, social security offices, the IMT (for driving licence exchanges), banks, and other institutions across Lisbon. I provide general interpretation at any appointment where you need English-Portuguese support.

Services I provide in Lisbon

GOV.UK authorised translation (Portuguese to English). I personally translate Portuguese documents into English for British nationals. My translations are officially recognised by the UK government. I’ve translated Portuguese birth certificates into English right here in Lisbon for clients who needed them accepted by UK institutions.

Certified translation for Portugal (English to Portuguese). I provide certified translations of foreign documents for Portuguese authorities. Birth certificates, marriage certificates, criminal records, academic qualifications, employment contracts, medical records, financial documents, and property documents. All translations are certified by a Portuguese lawyer, as required by Portuguese law.

In-person interpretation. AIMA appointments, wedding ceremonies, Conservatória visits, notary signings, medical appointments, court and legal proceedings, business meetings, and everyday situations across Lisbon.
